Who I Am

Fb7 I'm a writer, editor and communications professional with more than ten years of experience in marketing, media relations, and journalism. I've written and edited articles and press, corporate, and web content on a range of subject matter, and managed multifaceted media campaigns for a diverse spectrum of clients and audiences, most notably for film and book release campaigns, including cookbook author Rachael Ray.

I've contributed articles on everything from politics, the "green scene", architecture, and technology, to such lighter topics as style, home, food, and real estate. I've written for the C-Ville Weekly, Brick Weekly, Richmond.com, The Daily Progress, Northern Virginia Magazine, Inform Magazine (Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects), and MediaBistro.com, among others publications.

My most notable accomplishment in the publicity arena was garnering then unknown cookbook author Rachael Ray national media attention. As a book publicist at National Book Network just outside Washington, D.C. in 2001, I worked with numerous publishers to bring awareness to their titles, including Lake Isle Press, Ray's publisher. I was responsible for securing Ray's first national television appearance when I got her booked on "The NBC Today Show." I also spread the word about Ray to "The Food Network." Immediately after her appearance on "The Today Show," Comfort Foods, the title I was publicizing for Ray and Lake Isle Press, shot to the top five in Amazon.com sales and "The Food Network" called me to schedule a meeting with Ray to discuss her own show.

I have also worked with Oettinger and Associates, a Washington, D.C. area PR firm, on four independent film campaigns, including for The War Tapes, Sweet Land, Flannel Pajamas, and David & Layla. Other prior experience includes serving as Marketing Director for a grassroots film festival in Orlando, Fla. (Central Florida Film and Video Festival) and on-air radio reporter at the award-winning news-talk radio station WINA in Charlottesvilla, Va. Most recently, I was on the board of the Virginia Production Alliance, for whom I handled publicity efforts while helping the organization re-launch its website and brand itself through more proactive social networking efforts.

I'm a graduate of Virginia Tech with BS in Marketing and Georgia State University with a MA in Communications.
